Enhanced Bridge Inspections
Box Girder Inspections
MnDOT hired LHB in 2020 to perform in-depth inspections of the interiors of several box girder bridges within the Twin Cities metro. The inspections were performed in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) Bridges and Structure Inspection Program Manual (BSIPM). The in-depth inspections fully documented, measured, and mapped existing deficiencies observed inside the box girder interiors. Deficiencies were marked and photographed to provide baseline condition mapping and to track condition changes over time.
Upon completion of the field work, LHB produced an approved Update Report within the State of Minnesota’s Structure Information Management System. The report included still photos, narrated video, and an interior condition map of each box girder cell to be used during future inspections to efficiently document condition changes and to help ensure bridge reliability and safety.
