Granite Falls Community Vision

Focused on People

Like the rock it’s named for, Granite Falls has endured even in challenging times. There is tremendous energy in the community, with efforts like the Yes! House, the artist-in-residence program, new and existing entrepreneurs, among many other assets. However, the city struggles with a declining population, dwindling school enrollments, few housing choices, and aging demographics. City leaders felt these trends needed attention.

The community visioning process and framework focused on the people of Granite Falls: how will they make their contribution? How will they benefit from living here? How will their collective community continue to successfully provide a firm foundation and durable quality of life?

Working closely with Michael Lamb Consulting and City and EDA Staff, LHB led community engagement efforts and developed a community vision to serve as a framework that continues to confirm and reinforce Granite Falls as a home now and for many years to come.

Community Oriented, Community Defined

To engage Granite Falls residents, a series of community conversations were held that involved small group interviews with more than 60 residents to help guide the establishment of a community vision, goals, and objectives. Concurrently, an online survey explored similar topics and was available for anyone not able to attend in person. Once the vision was established, these items were confirmed and prioritized by community members through a pop-up booth at SquidFest, a community festival.

Community Vision & Goals

Granite Falls is a community centered on unique cultural and natural resources, with diverse social and economic opportunities. The community-wide goals involve connecting: Downtown retail and scenic riverfront experiences; people with housing that fits their needs at all life stages; residents and business owners with resources to build economic resilience; people with activities for all ages; and infrastructure investments throughout the community to create synergy.
