Rerouting Critical Water Infrastructure

The raw water line conveys water directly from a river intake to the water treatment clarifiers, which support many functions around the paper mill. The client observed water leaking around this pipe where it entered the basement of the treatment building. LHB evaluated options for exposing this pipe, which passed under a roadway and an adjacent structure.  Ultimately it was determined a less costly and more robust corrective action would be to construct a new segment of forcemain running over the roadway. The new forcemain entrance configuration required rerouting the flow path in several parts of the treatment works. Most of the pipe was constructed dry, with final connections being made during a scheduled mill outage.
